Tournament Format

Battle at Bandon

Format:   4-Man Team Match Play

          6 Four Ball Matches (2 man best ball)

          8 Singles Matches

Entry:    $200 per man

Winnings: $400 per man

Teams:    Draft Night is Friday at 7:30pm at McKee’s Pub

Handicaps: Handicap indexes will be applied to each course. Play off the low man. Low man gets zero strokes.

Point System:

1 point per match won

½ point per match halved

First to 7.5 points wins

Tiebreakers:

4 Ball:   matches can end in a tie / halve

Singles: a tie after 18 will continue to sudden death, handicaps apply. If both participants and/or a Bandon official decides play can no longer continue (darkness), the result will be a ½ point each.

Team Tie: Play will continue at The Preserve, par 3 course.

Rules:

USGA rules apply. 

International Truck Rule is not in effect.

Serenity Now

Some of you have been to Bandon, but I'm guessing none of you have been to The Labyrinth. It's a spiritual place designed for walking meditation. In other words, when you finish double-double-double, you can go here for some inner peace.

Have Game, Can't Travel

According to historians, this tournament is comprised of 7 private country club members and 1 scrappy public golf journeyman. And at least one participant belongs to multiple private country clubs. 

There's a theory out there that private golf members "have game, can't travel". Is that you? 

Shorty's

Shorty's is a free 9 hole course at the Practice Facility. Keep this in mind for your pre-tournament fine tuning -- maybe a good fit for Friday afternoon. 

Yes, it's a good fit for HAMMER. 

Travel Plans

Thursday, 10/22
Vickers arrives late afternoon into PDX.
King arrives late evening into PDX and has hotel room at RiverPlace. 
Captain arrives late afternoon, has hotel room at The Westin. 

Friday 10/23 
12pm Childress & Goldman arrive at North Bend / Coos Bay airport. 

Captain, King & Vickers are driving from Portland early AM and will pick up Childress & Goldman. 

Hyde, Kemmet and Hary arrive into PDX around 10:30am and are driving to Bandon in Hyde's rental car. Arrival into Bandon TBD. 

Monday 10/27
King has a 11pm flight from PDX. King is working on transportation options, including 7:10pm flight. 

Hyde, Kemmet, Harry and Vickers - driving to PDX late 10/27. Hotel in PDX needed? 

Tuesday 10/28
Hyde, Kemmet, Harry, Vickers - fly home from PDX, early AM. 

Goldman & Childress - fly from North Bend / Coos Bay at approx 8:10a. Captain will drop them off. 

Captain - driving home with the trophy buckled up safely. 

Punchbowl

The Punchbowl Grand Opening Day - May 20th, 2014 from Bandon Dunes on Vimeo.

The Captain was there on Opening Day of the Punchbowl. He's the handsome dude at the 1:23 mark of the video. The course was built with The Himalayas from St Andrews in mind, and the game of Hammer at the Himalayas is still fresh in memory. The Captain is looking for redemption.

Handicaps

The R&A and USGA have concluded their 2 year discussions on how to govern The Battle at Bandon.

The new format is quite simple:

Kevin is a +2

Captain is a 12

The rest do not matter.

King Gluttony

Greg won the British Open wager and has all day Saturday to eat & drink to his desire.

What is our strategy to limit the damage?

Do we encourage a food coma or get him to pass out?

This will be Greg's only win of the weekend.
